Updates to the OrbitSoft Ad Server

As you may be aware, the OrbitSoft ad server has recently experienced some updates. One of the main reasons we decided to update the product was the high costs we were continuously incurring. Our team also constantly ran into the problem of lack of flexibility when scaling, which was a result of a rigid, unbending architecture of the ad server. We were additionally struggling to put out updates due to the necessity of creating many copies of the product each time, since these copies serve the demands of different clients.

As it stood before, the ad server was split into several separate services which were completely rewritten in the Go programming language. Making this update helped us greatly increase effectiveness, while cutting costs. This new architecture allows for much more flexible scaling of our system, which supports us serving our clients better. It’s a win-win!

While creating these new services, we also generated the ability of fulfilling several requests from numerous clients simultaneously. In the future, this will simplify the updates process, facilitating the release of new versions of the product more frequently.

It’s important to note that while testing the product, we replaced a part of the NoSQL repositories on Aerospike. The system became more efficient and the number of servers which were being used in data storage was reduced.

Furthermore, our innovative team changed the subsystems of collecting and storing statistics and began using the ClickHouse data storage for gathering and processing statistical data. This will help save time for delivering collected data for end-users, and will allow the end-users to promptly react to any changes. In the future, we plan to offer our valued users the possibility of receiving reports in any sections desired.

Phew! We’ve been busy!

Digital Summit 2018 in Atlanta

We knew Digital Summit in Atlanta will be very special from the fun Opening Session on Tuesday afternoon from Daniel Pink, the bestselling author of the book «The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing» and very educational afternoon sessions with presenters from IBM, Google to National Geographic.

The second day as we were pulling into the parking lot at the beginning of the breakfast event — it was already full. Wow — that’s quite interesting, given into account that Cobb Energy center used to host thousand people events and can accommodate big crowds. Digital Summit did not disappoint — a wide range of many educational sessions and evening networking event were fun and engaging. Our favorite session was presented by event sponsors — Genius Monkey, «Programmatic Evolved: Using Artificial Intelligence to Target, Measure, Convert & Repeat». The subject of using user data in digital marketing is very controversial right now, and it was nice to see the presentation educating summit attendees on it. Organizers of the event also gave you time to visit sponsor booths and win great prizes with short networking breaks in between the sessions. We were somewhat surprised to meet marketing folks from Emory University and Georgia Tech at this event, but it’s good to know that universities in Atlanta are keeping on track with the latest Digital Advertising trends.

The day at the Atlanta Digital Summit went very fast and before we knew it was a closing networking reception. We had a chance to meet several event sponsors from Watson Marketing and Convertica and network with few event attendees. Unfortunately, the reception was over very quickly with folks heading home in hopes of beating the traffic. Hopefully, next year event, if held in Atlanta, will be as successful as this one.

The Integration of Appland into AppClick Services

Are you familiar with Appland? Appland is a Swedish-based cloud computing company that develops app store solutions for mobile operators, mobile devices, and online communities. Appland services are created as a mobile app with a variety of games and add-ons. The user who subscribes to Appland services receives access to all its add-ons and games without having to see annoying advertising.

AppClick technology allows customers to sell «virtual bonuses» using smartphone add-ons. This technology allows for two payment methods: a one-time payment or a subscription. Subscription is recommended for services that last a certain period of time. The user agrees that each year, their account will be charged an agreed-upon amount, and the user can certainly cancel the subscription at any time.

In order to produce the integration between AppClick and Appland services, our team created an AppClick Gateway which sends Appland requests to AppClick. This protocol is meant specifically for AppClick subscriptions, since the AppClick system offers two special subscription services.

Single Appland Gateway for Different Operators

The AppClick system can work simultaneously with several largest Russian mobile operators. We created a single gateway in order to quickly process client requests. All attached requests come to this gateway, and in turn, the gateway connects to different AppClick servers.

As far as the client is concerned, nothing has changed in their process. The difference is only seen on the server side. The choice of the URL for the AppClick API is determined based on the data in the configuration of the gateway, where there is the connection between the identification of the add-on (app ID) and the operator, to which it belongs.

For example, in order to determine a status of a subscription, the gateway server request will be addressed to the AppClick server of a certain operator; when the app ID parameters are changed, the request will be sent to the AppClick server of a different operator.

As you can see, a single gateway can connect to the AppClick API of a specific operator, depending on the requested identification.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates, as our team is working hard for you every day! Happy summer!

At this exhibition you can literally touch the future! CES.tech gathered all the most innovative products from a wide variety of industries, as well as their concepts and various design solutions.

All this was accompanied by great presentations, on which you could see what the products of future are capable of.

Affiliate Summit West 2018

Affiliate Summit West 2018

From the very beginning of the new year OrbitSoft began to work. Our team arrived to the fabulous and already well-known for us Las Vegas to participate in the 2 largest exhibitions — Affiliate Summit West 2018 and CES.tech 2018

Like his counterpart from the east coast, the Affiliate Summit West, held from January 7 to 9, brought together all the major players in the digital advertising market from around the world.

This is an excellent chance to establish contacts with companies with a wide variety of requests. There were about 6000 participants from more than 70 countries around the world.

And we did our best to take full advantage of the opportunity to communicate with our potential customers, and also to meet live and thank our current partners for their trust.

The Affiliate Summit West 2018 was just our first stop in Las Vegas. Immediately a new adventure has begun — CES.tech 2018

Blockchain Technology – A New Movement is Here

BlockChain

As we all know, new technologies are constantly being created and old ones being updated in order to sustain the ever-growing business demand for the most cutting-edge tools. Recently, the blockchain technology has become very prevalent in various industries, including the advertising business. We strongly believe that blockchains are already changing the global business structure, and that these changes will facilitate growth for the digital market, and specifically for the advertising world.

So what is a blockchain? At its core, a blockchain is a large knowledge database. It’s basically a continuously growing list of records. As soon as a record is noted down in the chain, it becomes permanent and will continue to exist, unaltered, for as long as the chain exists. Furthermore, the blockchain is distributed to all the chain members and each user has access to the full copy of the chain.

The blockchain network does not have a centralized control point, or a single point of cancelation, as do other chains. That means that if one or several users are disconnected from the chain, the chain still continues to grow and the data is not lost.

This ability to keep complete records about all transactions in the chain, and to make these records available to all the chain members is what makes a blockchain so attractive and effective for complex problem solving.

Since the advertising industry has always been ahead of the curve, the blockchain technology is already being widely used in the digital advertising space. A non-profit research organization called iAB Tech Lab has recently assembled a team of experts in order to study the ways to use blockchains in order to develop standards for making advertising more effective and valuable.

Here at OrbitSoft, we have selected several of our own interesting projects to work on, based on blockchain technology.

  • AdChain is an open protocol on Ethereum’s public blockchain. Its stated goal is to allow for building of decentralized applications, specifically for use in the digital advertising ecosystem.
  • Adex is a decentralized ad exchange that utilizes Ethereum to address problems like fraud, privacy, and consent in the digital advertising space.
  • The Basic Attention Token (BAT) utilizes the Ethereum blockchain to create a token that can be used to obtain a variety of advertising and attention-based services on a purpose-built platform.

Using the blockchain technology, we are hoping to make progress toward resolving issues such as fraud, discrepancies with billing, financial transaction risks, and verifying the validity of advertising resources.

Currently, the blockchain technology is going through an unprecedented growth spur, mostly due to the popularity of cryptocurrency. In order to stay up-to-date and to be able to offer our clients the latest and greatest technological possibilities, we are planning to incorporate cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, etc.) into our own products going forward. Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
